Amritsar is the holy city of the Sikhs, famous all over the world for its Golden temple. A one day tour gives you an idea of the religious sentiment that pervades this city located in bountiful Punjab in North India.
â€¢ Arrive at pickup point to a warm welcome by our tour guide and board the Car/coach for the short trip to the famed Harmandir Sahib with its huge golden dome, beautiful marble structure and a water tank.
â€¢ Next on the list is the Durgiana or Laxmi Narayan Temple built along the lines of the Harmandir Sahib and home to some ancient Hindu scriptures.
â€¢ Visit Jallianwala Bagh to pay homage to the martyrs who were killed by the British on April 13, 1919 and view the wall that still bears bullet marks as also the memorial well.
â€¢ Take a brief respite in the beautiful Ram Bagh, once the stomping ground of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and also home to a beautiful Summer Palace now converted into a Museum.
â€¢ Ram Tirath is next, located about 11 km away, said to date back to the times of Rishi Valmik and home to tanks and temples, also known as the place where Sita gave birth to Luv and Kush.
â€¢ After lunch we visit Pul Kanjari, a heritage site built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh where we get to view the ruined fort, temple, Gurudwara and mosque.
â€¢ From here we go on to the Samadhi of Shravan dating back to the times of Lord Rama and this is where Shravan is said to be buried on the banks of a small river.
â€¢ The group then visits Khoo Kalyanwala and the Banyan Tree associated with the Indian struggle for independence.
â€¢ It is evening and it is time to head for the Wagah Border, the international border between India and Pakistan, to view the Evening Retreat, a glorious ceremony conducted by the army.
The one day Amritsar tour ends here and guests are returned to the drop off point in the city.
